Lean Canvas (1 page)

Idea & Validation · 30 min

The Lean Canvas is a 1-page business model adapted from the Business Model Canvas by Ash Maurya. It's designed specifically for startups and focuses on the riskiest assumptions. Unlike a traditional business plan, it takes 20 minutes to complete and is meant to be iterated frequently.

The 9 blocks of the Lean Canvas (in order of importance): Problem, Customer Segments, Unique Value Proposition, Solution, Channels, Revenue Streams, Cost Structure, Key Metrics, Unfair Advantage.

Fill in the Lean Canvas from the most uncertain blocks first. Start with Problem and Customer Segments — if those are wrong, nothing else matters.

Key Takeaways

  • Lean Canvas is a 1-page business model for startups.
  • Fill uncertain blocks first: Problem → Customer Segments → UVP.
  • Keep it concise: 2-3 bullets per block.
  • Update it weekly — the canvas should evolve with your learning.
